FAMILY

As your family grows, it is important to be able to look back at who you all were and how far you’ve come.

Each stage passes by so quickly that you often don’t notice each important milestone until it’s gone. So, it is important to take the utmost care to select a family portrait photographer who has experience in capturing moments that will speak forever. But, let me guess: your family is loud, messy, and silly… No problem! I want to celebrate that! Your family portraits should capture the love, creativity, and uniqueness of YOUR family.

With this in mind, I keep your family sessions relaxed and fun. During your session, we play around, make

silly faces, laugh, and make memories. I like to see everyone interacting and smiling. These sessions are

a beautiful mix of posed and lifestyle images.

DRESSING FOR THE OCCASION – WHAT TO WEAR?

I know that as a woman, it’s difficult to choose what to wear for ourselves some days, let alone choosing and coordinating outfits for the whole family! Choosing the right outfits can make all the difference when it comes to capturing family photographs that will stand the test of time. So, how do you choose? Don’t worry; I’ve gathered some tricks and advice on how to make your wardrobe work for you during your session.

MAKE-UP (just the ladies, of course)

Ladies, for your family portrait sessions, make-up should be just the slightest bit heavier than you would wear on a normal day. (The camera really does “take it off”!) Even if you don’t normally wear make-up, a little bit can make a huge difference in your photographs. If you don’t feel comfortable doing your own make-up, we have a few makeup artists in our area that do amazing work, and I'm happy to connect you with them!

COLOR COORDINATION: THIS IS IMPORTANT STUFF.

If you need some direction for outfit color-coordination ideas, choose a color scheme for your family that will go well with your home décor. These days, Pinterest has become an invaluable source for clothing ideas for family portrait sessions! Do you have an amazing scarf? Does your child wear a favorite pair of boots as often as they can? Start there! Most importantly, wear something that you feel comfortable and confident in. Wear clothing that flatters your body. Short sleeves and long sleeves always look great, but be cautious of Sleeveless and cap sleeves. (However, if you have it, and love how you look in it, go for it!)

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION: THIS CAN MAKE THE SHOOT.

Make sure that your clothing selections are location appropriate. A hot summer day at the park? Avoid formal wear and clothing that gets dark fast with sweaty spots. For some sessions, ladies, if you love your high heels, you might also want to bring flip flops to walk from spot to spot so your feet don’t get sore.

Remember that your session is about you and your family. You need to be relaxed, happy and comfortable in whatever you choose to wear. Photographs with your family are not about being formal and perfect; they are about capturing memories, moments and experiences that celebrate what is special about your family. So relax, be yourself, and let’s have fun. You will look amazing!
